  1. Introduction

At BITE, we care about your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use BITE's website and web application (collectively, our "Service").

BITE is operated by The Curiosity Circuit Pte. Ltd. (UEN: 202511409W) ("we," "us," or "our"), a Singapore-based company.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

  1. Information We Collect

We collect personal and usage information when a parent ("Parent" or "You") registers for and subscribes to BITE on behalf of their child, and when your child uses the service.

Parent Information

When you register and subscribe to BITE, we collect:

  • Your name, email address and phone number 

  • Payment transaction details — processed securely by Stripe. We never store your payment card information on our servers (see Section 4: Information Sharing for details)

  • Communication preferences for service updates

Child Information

To deliver age-appropriate educational content and apply appropriate privacy protections, we collect:

  • Age: Derived from month and year only, provided by you during account setup

  • Username: Created by you during account setup. We recommend you select a nickname for your child’s user name and do not use your child’s real name for additional security purposes.

As your child uses BITE, we collect learning activity data to track progress, personalise learning experiences, provide feedback to you, and improve our service:

  • Learning progress 

  • Quiz responses and scores

  • Written reflections to educational prompts (e.g., "What did you learn about savings today?")

  • Login sessions and activity dates

  • Simulated financial activities - Virtual trading and savings using virtual currency only; no real money is involved.

Cookies

We use cookies to make BITE work properly and improve our service. Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use two types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies: Required for secure login and keeping you signed 

  • Functional cookies: Required for progress tracking and enhancing user experience

If you do not want cookies to be stored, most browsers allow you to manage or disable them in their settings. You can find more information about managing cookies here

Please note that if you disable essential cookies, you may not be able to log in or access certain features of BITE.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics tool that helps us understand how BITE is used and improve our service.  Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information about usage patterns, which helps us identify which features are most useful, detect technical issues, and enhance the educational experience.

Google Analytics does not identify individual users, and we do not combine Analytics data with any personally identifiable information. You can opt out of Google Analytics through your browser settings or by installing Google’s browser add-on available here.

Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity on our website (bite.thecuriositycircuit.com) to understand how visitors interact with our site through session recordings and heatmaps. Clarity collects information about your device, browser, and how you navigate the website, but does not collect personally identifiable information. Clarity is not used in the BITE application itself.

Microsoft Clarity uses cookies. You can opt out of Clarity tracking by disabling cookies in your browser settings (instructions here). Clarity's use of your information is governed by Microsoft's privacy policy, available here.

Meta Pixel

We use Meta Pixel on our website (bite.thecuriositycircuit.com) to measure the effectiveness of our advertising and understand how visitors interact with our marketing site. Meta Pixel collects information about your device, browser, and activity on our website, but does not collect personally identifiable information. Meta Pixel is not used in the BITE application itself.

Meta Pixel uses cookies. You can manage your ad preferences and opt out of Meta's tracking in your Facebook ad settings (instructions here). Meta's use of your information is governed by Meta's privacy policy, available here.

  1. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

Provide and Improve Educational Services

  • Deliver age-appropriate financial literacy content tailored to your child

  • Track learning progress and provide personalised experiences

  • Enable core app features and functionality

  • Fix bugs and improve user experience

Communicate With You

  • Send account-related emails (account creation confirmation, password resets)

  • Provide important service updates

  • Send optional marketing communications (only if you opt-in)

Marketing and Research

  • Measure advertising effectiveness and understand website usage (marketing website only)

  • Publicly share aggregated, anonmymised statistics (e.g., "85% of students completed the savings module") 

  • Publicly share anonymous content examples (e.g., "A student wrote: 'I learned that diversifying investments reduces risk'")

  • These never include names, ages, usernames, or any identifying information

  1. Information sharing

We care deeply about the privacy of our users and take great care to protect the personal information you provide to us. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We share or disclose your personal information only as necessary to provide BITE's services and in the following limited circumstances:

Payment Processing

We use Stripe, Inc. as our third-party payment processor to handle subscription payments securely. 

When you subscribe to BITE, Stripe collects your payment card information directly through their secure payment form. We do not have access to your complete payment card details—we only receive payment confirmation and basic transaction information (payment amount, date, and subscription status). Your complete payment card information is never seen, accessed, or stored on our servers.

Stripe's use of your payment information is governed by its privacy policy, available here. Stripe retains your payment information to process recurring subscription payments and in accordance with their data retention policies.

Service Providers

We may share your information with our trusted third-party service providers and individuals who help us operate and deliver BITE, including providers for secure cloud storage, email delivery, application infrastructure and hosting, and security and authentication services, and analytics. These service providers are contractually required to use your information only for the services they provide to us, maintain the confidentiality and security of your information, and not use your information for their own purposes. 

Legal Disclosures

We may disclose your information when required or permitted by law, such as to comply with legal obligations, court orders, or requests from public authorities. We may also share information when it is necessary to prevent fraud, security risks, or other unlawful or technical issues.

We may share information to protect the rights, property, or safety of BITE, our users, or the public, including in emergencies involving potential harm. If Bite is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that process, and we will inform you through email or other appropriate means.

  1. Communication preferences

We send essential emails necessary for your account, including account creation confirmations, password reset emails, and important service updates. We may also send product-related updates, including new features or improvements, to help you get the most out of BITE. These emails are not marketing messages and do not require opt-in.

We may introduce additional communications in the future, such as progress reports or learning milestone notifications. If we do, we will provide clear opt-in and opt-out

options.

Marketing emails are sent only if you opt in during registration. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email.

All emails are sent to the parent contact email address provided during registration. We do not send communications directly to children.

  1. Data storage and security

All personal information is stored securely on servers located in Singapore. We do not transfer personal data outside of Singapore unless we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information.

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption and access controls. Access to personal information is limited to authorised personnel only.

Please keep your account password secure and do not share it outside your household. We recommend using a strong password and logging out when using shared devices.

  1. Parental rights and controls

As a parent, you have full control over your child's BITE account. 

Account Access: During account creation, you will set up a single login password that both you and your child will use. Your child can use these credentials for daily learning, while you can log in anytime to monitor their activity and learning progress.

Username Policy: You are responsible for creating usernames that do not contain real names or personal information. Usernames cannot be changed through the application to prevent children from accidentally disclosing personal information.

You have the right to: 

  • Access all the information we have collected about your child

  • Request corrections to your contact details, your child’s age, or username 

  • Request deletion of specific content (such as individual reflections) or the entire account

  • Ask questions about how we use your child's information

  • Opt out of having your child’s anonymised responses used in public marketing examples 

To exercise these rights, please refer to Section 8 (Your Rights Under Singapore Law) for detailed instructions on submitting requests and response timelines.

  1. Your rights under Singapore law

Under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), you have the right to:

  • Access your personal information

  • Correct any inaccurate data

  • Delete your information or withdraw consent

  • Object to our processing of your personal information in certain circumstances

  • Request information about how your data has been used

How to Exercise Your Rights: 

For data access, correction, or deletion requests, email us at bite@thecuriositycircuit.com with your registered email address and specific request. We will respond within 30 days as required by Singapore law.

To opt out of sharing anonymised content for marketing purposes, email bite@thecuriositycircuit.com. These requests are processed immediately.

  1. Children's Privacy

BITE is designed for children, with content and safety features tailored for ages 9 to 14, to provide financial literacy education in a safe and supervised environment. We are committed to protecting children’s privacy and complying with applicable child privacy laws, including Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

Parental Consent and Account Creation

BITE accounts must be created by a parent or legal guardian. By creating an account for your child, you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian and consent to your child's use of BITE and our collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.

Information Collection from Children

We minimise the information we collect from children. As described in Section 2: Information We Collect, we only collect your child's age (derived from month and year only, provided by you), username (created by you), and learning activity data to deliver age-appropriate educational content and track learning progress. We do not collect children's full names, exact birthdates, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, photos, or precise location data.

Child Safety Features

BITE includes multiple safety features designed to protect children:

  • All content is designed to be age-appropriate for children 9-14

  • No third-party advertisements are displayed in BITE

  • Children cannot modify account settings or submit their real name or any photos to their profile. Profile pictures are limited to preset avatar options.

  • No social features, messaging, or child-to-child communication

  • Children cannot see other children’s work or profiles 

  • All trading uses virtual currency only; no real money is involved

  • We do not sell, rent, or share children's personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes

Unauthorised Access

If you become aware of unauthorised use by a child without parental consent, contact us immediately at bite@thecuriositycircuit.com.

  1. . Data Retention

Account Data

We retain your information for as long as your account remains active to provide BITE's services. After 2 years of inactivity, we automatically delete all personal information, including parent contact details, your child's username and age, and all learning data. You may request deletion at any time before automatic deletion occurs.

Payment Information 

We retain transaction records for five years as required by Singapore tax law, including payment dates, amounts, and subscription status. Payment card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never stored on our servers (see Section 4: Payment Processing).

Anonymised Data

We retain anonymised and aggregated usage statistics indefinitely for research and improvement. These datasets are permanently de-identified and cannot be traced back to any individual user or account.

We take the security of your information very seriously. In the unlikely event of a data incident, we will act promptly to investigate and address it.
If the incident poses any risk to personal information, we will notify Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) within three calendar days, as required by law, and inform affected parents as appropriate.

  1. Links to Other Sites

BITE may contain links to external websites or resources operated by third parties. This Privacy Policy does not apply to these external sites, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices or content. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party websites you visit.

  1. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you by email at least seven days before the changes take effect and post the updated policy on our website with a revised "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of BITE after changes become effective means you accept the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the changes, please stop using BITE and contact us to delete your account.
